Raw Perfection

by Mrs. Chicken on October 1, 2007

Flutter has faced the kind of tragedies and violence that most of us experience vicariously, through works of fiction.

Recently she’s begun to swim in these murky waters again, for what is – hopefully – the last leg in her journey to healing.

I can’t remember how I found Flutter, but it hardly matters. What does matter is that in her, I found a women and a writer whose grace and empathy pulsates through my screen.

When I get a comment from Flutter – and I do often – I feel as though a warm had has taken mine, and squeezed it for just a moment.

And when I visit her at Fluttercrafts, I find poetry wrung from events so horrible it is difficult to imagine surviving them, let alone spinning them into ethereal essays of intense and almost painful, lush beauty.

Recently, Flutter wrote about the suicide of a dear friend. This piece of writing was so clean, so spare and so heartbreaking that it stayed with me for days.

It was, as I told her in her comments, like a perfectly edited film – nothing wasted, nothing extra. Just the essential story.

That is why I am awarding Flutter a September Perfect Post Award for her incredible post, “History.” Because she understands, intuitively, that even the most flawed object can be inherently gorgeous.

As she is.

Yep – it was a good post.

Some people seem to have had much more life experience than others – and while we sometimes envy them for their wisdom, we wouldn’t want to go through what they might have gone through to obtain it.

Oh yes. That’s just how I feel when Flutter visits too. She’s such an amazing writer and an amazing person.

Now that I have a big head :) I am so humbled by this and know that I feel so very much the same way about you.

I don’t know how I found her either, but you are right, I can’t think of a better writer to receive this perfect award. She is grace. And strength.

I have recently started to lurk a little on Fluttercrafts and often have my breath taken away, and feel semi-speechless afterwards. Maybe that is why I’ve only lurked so far, but yes, I understand what you’ve said so beautifully.
