I can’t remember a time when I didn’t know about The Beatles.
When I was a little girl not even three, my father, himself just 22 years old, would play his guitar and sing me songs written by John and Paul.
Later, as an eight-year-old, I’d dim the lights in our basement rec room and grab my four-year-old sister’s hands. Together we would spin and spin to the dissonant denouement of “Day In The Life,” falling in a dramatic, tangled heap as the song crashes to an end.
As a teenager, 15 and desperately homesick, singing “Norwegian Wood” while crossing the Swiss Alps in a cramped BMW, my parents looking at each other with nostalgia in their eyes.

Bossy’s brother’s room was wallpapered with Beatles posters and yes, Bossy is *that* old.
for me it was Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens…and yes, the memories.
I always have a hankering for 70s songwriters: Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell. And of course, the Beatles are always in there too.
Oh, “the Beatless.” I grew up on them, too, and now my kids also love the Beatles. I have explained to them that there are two kinds of people in this world– Beatles People and Elvis People. And while there may be an occasional hip swivel at Chez Shew (usually because of the Lilo & Stitch soundtrack), we are Beatles People.
You gotta give Poo “All Together Now.” Alphabet! Numbers! A hopelessly redundant chorus! My kids love it.
The Beatles still take me back, too; my dad playing on his guitar and singing along, my sister and I putting the needle to the vinyl and lip synching to “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl.”
Sean has had quite the side gig as a wedding singer, friend after friend requesting that he perform. I am still haunted by him singing In My Life, it was as if we were together on a porch in 60 years time. So many Beatles songs have that quality. Thanks for bringing those memories to the surface.
I HEART the Beatles. Heart.
I’m not getting your updates in my feed reader. *pout*
I too, love the Beatles.
Beatles. *sigh*
I’m guessing everybody has the Love album? (that was done last year)
It sounds like they walked into the studio yesterday and recorded it – it’s wonderful.
It was Simon and Garfunkel and then anything Paul Simon at my house growing up. And at my house now. Mmmm. It’s not home to me until Paul Simon plays.
OK, go read mine for today – it’s like the anti-post for this one.
