I have this idea, an idea that is leaving me breathless.
The story came to me in a dream. I’m not being funny – it really did. It was one of those moments when you wake up and grope for paper and pen, fiercely holding on to the fog of sleep, desperate to get the words on paper lest they be lost to reality forever.
It was a vision.
As I go through my days – laundry time, writing time, driving time, story time -it keeps coming back to visit, leaving tantalizing pieces of its puzzle in my lap.
It’s entirely fiction, something new to me. But it has a grip on me I can’t shake. There is an urgency about it, a ferocity daring me to write it down.
Through my windshield this morning the horizon faded away and this strange fictitious world opened up instead.
Maybe I’ll share some of it here, and beg your forgiveness for my clumsiness.
Maybe I will. I might have to.

The only think keeping me up late at night is the nieghbor’s barking dog!
Do share…
I am hoping it is some kind of wonderful harry potter thing, so I can say “Oh, I knew her back when…”
You know, it’s not too late to jump into NaNoWriMo
I have those visions too – usually after several glasses of Sangria!!
You know… that is exactly what Stephanie Meyer wrote about writing her books (Twilight series). That it just came to her as a vivid dream. Like it was a story that just HAD to be told.
Start writing!!!
De-lurking to say, yes, please share. I’ve occasionally had those visions… not that I make the time to do anything about it…
I just joined NaNoWriMo today, it’s not too late…
oh, then write, sister. write.
Oh the suspense….
I once had a dream about Matt Damon that was SO amazingly vivid that when I woke up and wrote the whole thing down before I could forget it. I wasn’t a huge Matt Damon fan or anything, so I don’t know why I dreamed about him. But after that dream? HUGE Matt Damon fan.
I had that experience once, in college. I got several pages out, and let a professor read over it (he loved it). I was so sure it would turn into a great …something. Story? Novel? But I let it slip away, and the urgency faded and the dream didn’t come back. Those pages are still shelved in my craft room, waiting for me to pick it up and finish the tale.
Don’t let this one pass you by. Write it! Write it while it grips you and leaves you breathless. It’s exciting – I do hope you share some here. (Or, you know, just write it and publish it and I’ll come to your book tour. Whatever works for you.)
We’re all ears, waiting…
I love the idea of something leaving you so breathless that you have get it out of you. I relate.
share it when you can?
Ooo – can’t wait to read more!
I understand completely. Me too.
Can’t wait to read it!
Those fiction visions are scary, but wonderful. The first time it happened it to me it felt a bit crazy. I hope you write yours down and see where it takes you!
How delicious.
Oh, I’m so excited. I’ve had this happen to me several times and will often write down notes in the dark. I can usually even read them when I wake up the next morning. It’s a pathetic little skill, but it’s mine…
