Getting A Taste

by Mrs. Chicken on November 6, 2007

If ever there was a day in which an extra hour was not needed, it was Sunday. The Poo was downright ornery from the minute she woke up an hour early (thank you, DST) to the minute we laid her down in her crib at 6 p.m., justifying the premature bedtime with the thought that somewhere over the yardarm it was 7 p.m.

Church was an hour’s worth of whining, wheedling, and wobbling on the free-standing kneeler in front of our chairs in the crying room, my hands on her as she deliberately tested fate, seemingly doing everything she could to knock her chin on the wooden bar at the top.

Shushing her right up to and through the Eucharist, we fled the building right after we exited the Communion line.

ah yes. we are fairly equitable in our suffering so we are rather knowledgeable about each other’s pain so it’s all the more annoying when one of us weasels out. (and generally, that’s me, i’ll run errands anywhere!)

My husband dreads it when I’m too sick to take care of kids (not often in the almost 5 1/2 years of motherhood). He’s always ready to go back to work as a vacation.

My Hubs and I both WOH full time, but I bear the burden of being close to the kids’ school. So I’m on drop-off duty, lunch duty, PTA duty, I forgot my gym shoes duty, pick up duty, drive to art-studio duty, take to dance duty. Like you, I make up reasons to be “off call” (of course, my excuses usually involve flying somewhere and staying in hotel. Wanna come?)

Ugh.

My husband has a smug “what’s the big deal?” attitude when he “watches” the kids… but then, that’s all he does, watches them, not watches them while making dinner, getting laundry done, nagging them about homework and doing their chores.

We’ve always found the days when clocks must be reset stressful, the extra-hour ones more so than the lost-hour ones. I don’t know why. I think it upsets the equilibrium of, especially, a child.

Back and glad to read you.

There are 2 time a year when the hubby joins my stay at home status! I can’t wait for his winter break this year as I will once again welcome him into my world! That is when he finally understands why by the time he gets home from work why it apears that I just sat home and did nothing all day long.
