Helpful Hints From Mrs. Chicken

by Mrs. Chicken on November 15, 2007

I hate rolling coins. Tedious. Boring. Last task on the list.

Then I discovered CoinStar. And no, this is not a review, and no I didn’t get a damn thing from them.

Do you have a CoinStar in your town? You can click here to find out. If you do, you bring that big ole jar o’ change from your husband’s dresser or your kitchen counter, dump that change in the machine, and get a gift card to Starbucks.

The machine takes no commission if you get a gift card. You can also get one for this place or this place, and lots of other places.

But me? Dude.

I get the Starbucks. Staaaaaarrrrrbucks. For the drive-thru. For after preschool drop-off. For blogging and working and cleaning and drinking and relaxing sans Poo.

Do it. Mrs. Chicken says so.

Hmmmm…I love me some Starbucks. And, I will definitely agree with the blueberry muffin recommendation! Who knew you could get gift cards at the CoinStar?!? Thanks for letting us in that secret! :)

no commission? i’m all over it.

Emily November 15, 2007 at 6:47 am

I thought all you could do was get vouchers for the grocery store. What a great PSA.

Toni November 15, 2007 at 6:51 am

I hearts me some Starbucks!!

Leeanthro November 15, 2007 at 8:14 am

Looks yummy!

I take my coins to my bank and have them deposited into our children’s savings accounts. A big mason jar is usually about $50!

In fact there is a full jar by the washing machine right now.

We’ve got a few cups languishing around here – I think I smell the coffee brewing.

(I love you the pictures you’ve been posting…)

I am addicted to Starbucks. I also collect the cards. Because I like them and because I can. Now I have a new use for all my coins….

Coinstar=Christmas Shopping (or After-Christmas-get-myself-a-little-something-on-Amazon-Shopping)

I heart coinstar. And you, look how cute you are!

Clinkin November 15, 2007 at 12:18 pm

A shoebox full of coins yielded 80% of the funds for Xmas shopping at one of those places! They are the way of the future!
(Also..not sure of your locale but if you have a “Commerce Bank” they have “Penny” who is a coinstar type machine…she at least just gives you cash at no fee!)

Jennifer November 15, 2007 at 1:36 pm

Are you serious? Really? REALLY???

I’m so taking my coins up there THIS afternoon. Thank you for this excellent public service post.

Gretchen November 15, 2007 at 2:28 pm

Good to know. I generally take it to my bank, and they give me paper money for no fee.

Will have to try it, just for the sake of chai tea latte.

cate November 15, 2007 at 2:31 pm

ooooh….i wonder if we have something like that in Canada!

Aimee Greeblemonkey November 15, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Coinstar has been my big green friend for many years now!!!

Janet November 15, 2007 at 6:37 pm

I didn’t know they did gift cards!!!

There is a Coinstar at my grocery store. I’m so going to do that.

Fizz November 15, 2007 at 7:17 pm

Oooh, I didn’t know they did giftcards. And I *certainly* didn’t know they did GCs to Starbucks!

Smooch & I had a blueberry muffin just this morning! (Actually, he had the entire blueberry muffin… and a few bits of my pumpkin cream cheese muffin for good measure. And I had a venti eggnog latte. There was much, MUCH shopping to be done.)

Meegan November 15, 2007 at 7:27 pm

I am so jealous that you have a drive-through Starbucks! I live in Chicago and we have no such thing here. See what I just did? I found you another benefit to living in Chambana!

Jordan November 15, 2007 at 7:45 pm

Hmmm, whaddya know? There’s a Coinstar 5 blocks away – and Starbucks across the street from us…how very convenient! Thanks for the PSA!

Amanda November 15, 2007 at 8:40 pm

I love seeing your face so often!

candace November 15, 2007 at 9:20 pm

i love the starbucks drive thru! we have an einsteins bagel drive thru here too. and a cvs and a dry cleaner…
wow. that is depressing. but not as depressing as getting in and out of the car with two kids every ten minutes.

momto4kidsny November 16, 2007 at 9:24 am

I use Coin Starr however I didn’t know they did the cards and didn’t do fees!
Starbucks? Won’t you come to PY town or even G town for me? We don’t have one of those around here. Yet we can buy Starbucks coffee for our coffee pots at the grocery store. What is up with that!

karrie November 17, 2007 at 4:46 am

The gift card must be new. I remember pooling containers of coins with an old roommate abt 10 years ago, and we were thrilled to find we had $80…after the cut.

And I have Starbucks drive thru envy. The only one I have been to is in NH, abt 3 hours away. So many times I have been out with M and desperately wanted a coffee without having to wake him up and go through the process of buckling him back in. I think I’m off to find a list of Starbucks drive thrus for my trip. :)

Mrs. Mustard November 17, 2007 at 12:34 pm

I am DYING from all the Starbucks posts lately!
I am jonesing so bad for one and there is no Starbucks here!

RubyRedGirl November 17, 2007 at 5:54 pm

I drive an extra 15 minutes out of my way after playgroup just to get to the Starbucks drive through. Getting my grande sugar-free vanilla latte makes me feel like part of the big world.

canape November 20, 2007 at 9:19 am

I’m doing a great deal of my xmas shopping via Amazon thanks to large amounts of collected change. Love me some Coinstar!

Simply thought I might comment and say neat theme, did you create it your self? Actually seems to be superior!
