In A Strange Ironic Twist …

by Mrs. Chicken on January 19, 2008

The other day I wrote about my lack of confidence in my appearance, an ailment common among women since the dawn of Madison Avenue.

So imagine my surprise when Aimee over at Greeblemonkey nominated me for “Hottest Mommy Blogger” in the 2008 Blogger’s Choice Awards. She was kind enough (or delusional enough) to also nominate me for “The Blogitzer” and “Best Parenting Blog.”

I blushed, then I preened, then I decided that I am a horrible blog citizen.

I haven been terrible at paying forward all the pretty bling and badges so many talented bloggers have doled out to me over the past several months. In fact, I am so awful that I neglected to even collect my prizes and display them on my brag page.

It isn’t that I don’t appreciate these wonderful compliments. Because I do, I really, really do. I mean, imagine what it feels like for someone like me to be petted and praised by so many people?

It feels like heaven. Like a facial during a massage while eating chocolate and potato chips simultaneously, while at the same time losing enough weight to wear every piece of expensive clothing I’ve ever admired in the J. Crew catalog.

I’ve been hibernating for awhile, not playing along with memes, forgetting to share the linky-love so generously bestowed on me, and totally slacking in the comments department.

A lot has to do with the whole gestational thing (of which I was unaware for apparently almost two months) and the fact that Mr. C is still flat on his back.

Yes, still. Just today he says his gout is flaring up again, and man oh man, is he ever cranky. Cranky and unhelpful, which is making me a little crazy because I’m, like, you know, running around the house after the crazy midget who lives here, randomly gagging and holding my breath during diaper changes.

I do feel bad for him.

Sorta.

Anyways, I might not have knocked on your door, but rest assured I’m peeping in your windows. I love to drive by when it’s dark and linger on the street in front of your house. I love the golden light that envelops you and your family when you’re eating dinner or getting the kids to bed.

I even sometimes bring you a birthday cake, and ring your bell and run away, leaving the cake on the stoop. I love how you look around, shrug and eat the cake.

Mmmmm, cake.

At any rate, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being a bad friend. I’m not lazy, I swear. I’m just … soporific. At all times.

Do you still love me?

‘Cuz I love you, dudes. Totally.

You’re amazing, gestating and doing ALL those links. You may need to go take a nap, friend!

Thinking postive back-healing thoughts for Mr. C.

Suebob January 19, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Man, that linky stuff is a lot of work. I am impressed.

KDF January 19, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Dayum! You are the HTML queen!

Bipolarlawyercook January 19, 2008 at 6:06 pm

*Mmmmwaaahh!* And chocolate covered potato chips! Cuz, I saw them in a chocolate shop once, didn’t buy any, and ran right over to the supermarket for a bag of ruffles and a Green & Black’s milk chocolate bar– which I then bashed with a mallet, and microwaved to make . . . Chocolate Dip for Potato Chips. Mmmmmm. And, tell you a secret? Sometimes I stir in caramel sauce, too. Because when the cravings hit, the cravings hit. Except? My husband doesn’t know (well, now he does) because I ALWAYS EAT THE WHOLE BAG OF CHIPS AND HIDE THE EMPTY BAG AND WASH THE BOWL. Because some things are too good to share.

Absolutely!!!

It’s hard to be a consistently wonderful blog citizen. (I say that having sucked lately.)

You get even more of a by being preggers and all.

Oh, and you’re idea of heaven? The only thing I would add is that it was all taking place on a warm sunny beach.

Love you? Adore you! Read you every day! And comment in my head later as I rush to work and wish I had had time to comment.

When you bring cake? I’ll love you even MORE!

Heather January 19, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Aw, heck. I don’t comment as often as I “should” either. That doesn’t mean I’m not reading. Thanks for the love.

Back at ya.

This gestating is hard work.

ali January 19, 2008 at 10:54 pm

any person who uses the word soporific gets love from me ;)

andi January 20, 2008 at 12:04 am

Aw, thanks for the love. I love you too (and not just because you bring cake). I will never be upset at you for having a busy life outside of the computer(not to mention puking or feeling generally crappy because of the little bean that’s growing inside of you).

I think we all need to stop feeling guilty for not commenting/posting. We have enough obligations as it is – we’re all in the same boat.

flutter January 20, 2008 at 12:39 am

Love you too, Amy girl. Always.

Emily January 20, 2008 at 8:34 am

Course we do!

Aimee Greeblemonkey January 20, 2008 at 11:57 am

You rock and I am not delusional. ;)

And don’t forget to get your December Perfect Post, I am sorry I am not popular enough for them to remember me in the post, but your writing certainly deserved it.

There seem to be several kinds of bloggers out there – among them there are the ones who want to be read, and also the ones that want to just be a part of a community. There are others too, but everybody will become paranoid and want to fit into a group if I make a list.

Jen January 20, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Awe… I LYLAS, dude. Heh.

I’ve been lacking in the bloggy love department myself, so I can forgive a few indescretions.

Jen January 20, 2008 at 4:40 pm

umm…

indiscretions.

When is someone going to get smart and put a spell checker in the comments section?

becky January 20, 2008 at 6:35 pm

I love it here! I may not comment as often as I should but I am always around here somewhere!!

All Adither January 20, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Thank you! That’s so sweet! And very creatively conveyed.

Arkie Mama January 20, 2008 at 10:06 pm

You know we love you. And sheesh — early pregnancy plus toddler plus ailing spouse?

How, HOW did you find time for all that linkage. Wow. I’ve spent the past hour dropping in on all your usual haunts…

canape January 20, 2008 at 10:07 pm

Of course. Remember, I’m guilty of reading 28 posts of yours in one day . . .

toyfoto January 21, 2008 at 3:41 pm
