Sounds Like I Should Stay Home More Often

by Mrs. Chicken on February 25, 2008

The Poo had a rough weekend, playing with her grandmother and cousins. We ran them ragged, with a trip to the mall playground, dinner out, and bowling, all in the same evening.

It was a whirlwind 22-hour visit, and at the halfway mark The Poo tossed her cookies all over her favorite snowflake nightie and the guest bed.

Yesterday when the troops departed for points east, the child fell apart. Her fragility, combined with the prior evening’s vomiting, led me to believe she was coming down with something.

This morning at around 3:30, my suspicions proved correct. She and I wound up in bed together for a restless night, and when 8 a.m. rolled around, she woke up miserable and drippy.

Now, four hours later, we are ensconced on the sofa watching the Princess Promenade. The Poo is never this still, but her fever and chapped lips have laid her low.

I almost called our babysitter and canceled for this morning – she comes every Monday and Wednesday – but I had to procure a gift for a baby shower I am attending tonight.

I kept my errands to the minimum and was home within an hour.

After Bethany left, I asked The Poo which movie she wanted to watch, and fetched her a new hankie. As I handed her one of her father’s handkerchiefs, she looked at me with glassy, adoring eyes.

“Dank you, Bommy,” she mumbled through her congestion. “Dank you for taking care ob me.”

My heart melted and I gave her a tight squeeze. “You’re welcome, my love. It’s my job to take care of you and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“Yeah,” said my daughter. “You are good at taking care ob me. You’re like a babysitter!”

That IS a compliment! I’ve written before that I actually like when my son gets sick (bad mommy!) b/c he is so quiet and easily entertained. Hope she feels better soon.

From polar bear angel boys at Oh the Joys to congested cherubs here at your place, I am one massive blubbering mess.

I lub you.

Aw, what a cutie. Hoping she is feeling better soon.
I just went back and read your babysitter post. I told my husband that if we have a third kid I will have a regular babysitter a few times a week.

That’s nothing. My sister once told my aunt she feels very close to me. She said “she’s like a sister to me you know.” She’s a brunette I swear!

I know this is really sick, with a syndrome name and everything, but I just love it when they’re sick!
