It comes as no surprise that my second child is uncooperative.
The Poo is generally a good girl, but ask her to do something that makes your life easier and you’ll get an emphatic, metaphorical middle finger.
The girl’s been flipping me the bird in her own way for quite some time. Take potty training, for instance. It was fight fight fight, right up until the day she learned how to pee in the potty. She’s had two accidents since then, and she even insisted on panties for bedtime two days after her training started.
Enter Shaggy, yet another genetic marvel whose obstinacy is the result of two generations of 100 percent donkey.
Even the ultrasound technician couldn’t help laughing as my son ducked his head into my pelvis and waved his arms and legs in front of his face. Next to me sat his big sister, who repeatedly told me “no no no” when I told her to stop climbing on a very tall stool.
“You’ve got your work cut out for you, mom,” she said, shaking her head.
Shaggy is a big little guy, weighing in at four pounds and four ounces. If his growth stays on track, he will emerge in the 80th percentile for size. His head is waaaay down in my pelvis, explaining why I feel like any minute he’s going to stick his hand out of my padoodledoo and wave at me.
He pretty much hid the whole time. This is the best shot of the day:
You have to look very closely, and it’s like one of those “hidden picture” games you get on kids’ menus. But there he is. My boy.
I wasn’t all that excited about the 3D scan. But then I saw my wee bub on the monitor, and it all became so clear, even though his features were fuzzy.
There’s a real baby in there.
Who knew?

he’s beautiful, sweetie.
also, please tell me you’re out of the cyclone cellar, too. gah.
SO COOL!
i’m thrilled for you.
Isn’t technology amazing sometimes…
it’s the baby on the moon!! I can see him clear as day, and I am so excited for you and wow, technology just utterly amazes me.
Also? Totally in tears right now.
Not fuzzy at all, but lady is that a middle finger I see sticking up in the lower right hand corner??
I think so.
Wow! That’s so cool! It’s amazing how things have changed in just the last few years. I can see him very clearly, and yep, that’s a real baby
hi shaggy!
so very handsome.
Well hello little bebe!
I hope you’ll someday forgive me for what I’m about to say: This ultrasound is the first I’ve ever seen that makes a baby look like a teenager. I swear to god he look’s like my teenage cousin (who is now in his 30s). I’m sure it’s just because his sweet little nose isn’t smooshed!
He’s adorable.
How fun to have a 3D ultrasound. They don’t do those at the Mayo Clinic!
He’s so handsome A. Makes me weepy even with my little babe here on my lap!
That’s so exciting and beautiful.
Oh. My. God. He looks exactly like his sister! So coooool!
Doesn’t it kind of look like he’s got his hand up like he’s saying, “nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah”?
Poo and Shaggy are going to have some fun together. Most likely at the expense of your sanity.
He’s gorgeous.
Shaggy is so cute and looks just like The Poo!
Ditto about Shaggy looking like Poo, the nose and lips are so similar. That must be such a cool feeling to get to study his face before you meet him. I totally had a mental image of what Henry would look like and it took me by surprise imediately following his birth when he didn’t look anything like I thought he would.
Oh wow! I wish I would have had one of those done. They are amazing! Congrats!
Wow. That’s priceless.
Hold on. Padoodledoo?
I love my 3D scans with my kids! I think they’re amazing. Especially since we have one of my son flipping us the bird
What a gorgeous boy.
That is so sweet ~ I can’t believe how clear his face is ~ he is a cutie.
love ~ Tabitha XX
i can totally see it! 100% he’s gorgeous!
Oh, how cute. Fuzzy face and all. I never got one of the 3-D sonagrams, they came out after I was done having babies. They are amazing!
I think he looks like you!
That’s awesome! Hi Shaggy! ::waves::
He and The Poo are going to have a great time together.
I think he looks so like The Poo!! He looks beaut
good cooking honey
xx
When I was preggo, these high-tech scans freaked me out! And they still kind of do. It has to do with the eyes…
How thrilling! I didn’t have ultrasounds with either of my children. I hope they never feel “deprived” at the lack of pre-babyhood pix.
Awwwwwwwww
He’s already adorable.
So cool! He looks very grown up somehow.
My daughter sucked her thumb and mooned us during her ultrasound, which is pretty similar to the way she acts today.
Wow, that is SO cool. Amazing how fast technology changes. He’s beautiful!!
Wow! He is a handsome bebe!
i think i saw that in a museum once.
So cool! And “padoodledoo” totally cracked me up! Thank goodness you’re having a C-section and you don’t have to push his big-headed self out of there.
For some reason, I have felt this way with every ultrasound with this child, but not the others. I wonder why.
Swooning.
I am constantly freaking AMAZED by what ultrasound can do these days. He’s going to be ADORABLE!
He is SO beautiful! I never had a 3d ultrasound … I can see why people like them, though!
Yahooo! He is cute as a bug.
Dude, those are cool. We never got to have one with our 4 kids.. but if we did our first would ave been like your second!
