So all of you are at BlogHer.
And those of you who aren’t probably feel like me – I know I’m in one Bitter Betty kind of mood. Not only am I NOT in San Francisco sipping fruity alcoholic beverages, I just got back from my OB appointment.
Where I found out that my iron is so low that I may have to have an IV infusion at my next visit.
Good news? I had a contraction while I was on the fetal monitor – might I still get my lucky date?
Bad news? My husband leaves for Italy tomorrow and there will be a two-day gap before anyone is here to manage The Poo, should I go into labor before Sunday afternoon when my MIL arrives.
More bad news? Today is the last day of The Poo’s summer camp.
Whaaaaa!
It’s not ALL bad, though. I upped my babysitter hours and Shaggy’s furniture arrived and is ready to be picked up. I ordered diapers and wipes from Amazon, and stocked up on sleepers from Carter’s. I’m (mostly) ready.
But still. My heart is in San Fran with all of you.
And so is my boss. My editor at my super-duper paid gig is going to be hanging around BlogHer on Saturday. Her name is Donna Airoldi, and she is, like, so cool. She’s been a travel writer for a long time and she’s witty and fun, and easy to talk to.
I’ve never laid eyes on her in person, but I hope someday to have a drink and a face-to-face conversation with the woman who gave me back my confidence.
Donna took a chance on me. She read a blog post I wrote for GNMParents last summer, emailed me, and the rest is history.
Donna helps put food on my table and she put the spring back in my pen.
So find her, will you? Say hello? Share with her what this community is all about? She wants to know.
And in the meantime, go read this. It was a good day yesterday, and I’m going to do it again today. I won’t be around much. I’ll be spending time with my two favorite people.
Have a good time, ladies and gents. And don’t forget about those of us on the homefront.

Done as instructed – visited, and displayed by utter geekiness in my comment lol.
Great post though. I wish I could survive by being a writer – unfortunately I might incur a 95% drop in salary if I attempted it.
I am a also VERY jealous of the blogherrifics. But it will be fun to read the post-event posts!
I wish you a good weekend and higher iron levels!
Keep up the superb incubation work! You’re almost there.
I’m so glad I’m not the only person NOT attending Blogher this year.
Next Year, Next Year…
I am a Bitter Betty too (can an Elizabeth be a Bitter Betty?). They’re in my hometown no less! Unfortunately I now live 500+ miles away.
Well we are still here keeping you company. Next year you can go and show of Shaggy….or not, totally your choice!
I don’t know what it is about the travelmuse website, but whenever I visit it, the left margin is cut off (and sometimes the right, iirc). It’s hard to read an article when you have to guess about the missing letters or words.
If anyone has any idea what — if anything — I can to to correct this glitch, I’d appreciate it.
FWIW, I’m using IE 6.0.29-something.
I use Firefox at work, but pretty much read C&C and click on travelmuse links from home.
Wish I could survive by being a writer – coming to terms with the fact that I have recently developed career envy. All of you who survive doing what you love. Well done! I should stop spending so much time following blogs that I enjoy and do some work cause I’m not getting paid for this.
Hope everything works out with your iron, and your two day window flies by before Shaggy shows.
Yeah, I feel a little jealous too about reading all the lovely women heading to Blogher. It sounds like such a fun event but if I went, I would likely feel barfy and wouldn’t be able to imbibe in the tasty tasty alcohol.
Take care and good luck with the iron.
Wow — thanks Amy for the kind words! I feel lucky to have found you and am thrilled that you enjoy working with TravelMuse. As you know, we love working with you too!
Margie, I’m sorry you’re having trouble viewing the site properly. I’ve forwarded your problem to our engineer, and he’s asked whether you could provide a screen shot of the problem along with the URL of that page. you can send it me at editor@travelmuse.com and I’ll make sure it gets forwarded to the team.
And for anyone attending BlogHer, as Amy noted I’ll be there tomorrow and would love to meet you.
