So.
I just got back from the OB, who offered to deliver Shaggy Boy today.
Um, yeah.
I contracted a few times in 20 minutes during the non-stress test, and Shaggy was sleepy. My cervix is mushy (groooooossss) and the midwife says she can get her finger in a tiny hole there but can’t reach the baby’s head.
Aaaaaaaaand …. gross.
The actual doctor came to check me (!), chastised my choice of reading material (apparently “The Executioner’s Song” is inappropriate for moms about to give birth?) and said:
“Well, if you want to, we can just do this today.”
Then she grinned.
Oy.
I SO would have said yes, but we haven’t anyone to care for The Poo. So I called my mom and she is going to come Wednesday, as soon as she makes it through the closing on her new house tomorrow.
This is the second time my doc offered to do the deed early. Why, she says, should I be uncomfortable when she can declare me ready to go?
I wish she would just make the decision for me already. Because today, it was an offer almost too good to refuse.
But stay tuned. I have a sneaking suspicion that the boy will make his appearance soon.

oh how exciting! And frustrating – but great! And … ooh the timing! But yay!!
Soon soon soon!!
Am I more excited than you?!
I wish I was there and could bring The Poo over here for a very loud playdate! She’d be thrilled to come home to just one other yelling kid!
But I bet you are going to be scrambling for someone to watch her soon… YAY!
Oh me too — wish I could be there to help with the Poo so she could meet her brother a few days early!
Oh SWEET RELIEF! Good for you! Can’t wait to meet Shaggy, and I can’t wait to hear that your girlie parts aren’t feeling like they’re being pushed inside out anymore.
Hang in there….almost done.
So exciting!
Cool! I am two month away and not getting ready mentally.
AHHH! So exciting! Will be waiting for news of Shaggy’s safe arrive any day now. Hang in there.
Oh man, I wish you could fax or email kids. I totally would have watched the Poo so you could have met Shaggy today.
(I also wish you could email or fax brownies, icecream, cake, and cookies, but that is another story.)
COME ON SHAGGY!!
Wow. I will be checking in with bated breath. Hang in there girlfriend.
Yay Shaggy! Can’t wait to meet ya!
so exciting! would love it if he came early…must keep us posted! (i know you will :’))
I don’t know if I could have refused. Ack.
So glad the time is nearing.
We’re a waiting, Master Shaggy. Be easy on your mama.
8-4-08 is a cool birthday. I hope you find someone for Poo, wink wink, so you can go for it.
Sometimes just knowing that you COULD have the baby now helps a little, doesn’t it?
Oh gosh!!! I hope your mom makes it ASAP because MAN do you deserve to be comfortable again. Well, as comfortable as one can be when she is recovering from a C-Section. It must be such a relief to know that you can end this soon!
I agree with others, I don’t know if I could have refused either. You can make it til your Mom gets here…..I hope!
You are going to have a LEO…I vote for 08/08/08…Friday. Can you wait that long?
WEDNESDAY! Squeeeee!!
(If I’d been in your shoes I may have tried to get the nurses to watch The Poo for a couple of days.)
Yay! Not much longer now. All your hard work and suffering will pay off very soon with a new bundle of joy.
You’re gonna have a BA-by, You’re gonna have a BA-by. I can’t wait to finally meet Shaggy! I agree though, if you’re going to go into labor & have an emergency c-section before the scheduled date, totally aim for the 8th like you wanted!
I feel like you are really learning the hard way how difficult it is to have 2 kids. Already, you have to decide the poor boy’s birth day b/c of childcare issues! Oy is right! But I am secretly wishing you can make it until the 8th b/c that birthday would just rock!
Niiiiiiice!
I had a similar deal. Went in 2 weeks before due date and walked out with a birth scheduled for the following morning. Yikes!
Wednesday? That’s awesome! Good luck, can’t wait to see him.
Wheeee! I’m so excited! *Bounces*
OMG – that’s great. Maybe you’l l still end up with 08/08/08!
I just got finished reading “The Executioner’s Song.” It’s a very intense book and Mailer certainly deserved his Pulitzer for it. Read what you want to read, forget the doctors. Stephen King might start contractions!
Good luck!
Read what you want because your reading a “grown-up” book days are numbered, which I’m sure you realize.
Maybe you’ll get 8/8/08 after all! Yipee!
Best wishes!
Way to let him do it his way.
I totally missed this post yesterday but I would be willing to drive to your house to watch the Poo for you!
I sure hope she gets there in time for you to have Shaggy on 8/8/08 cause I know you really wanted that day!! Fingers are crossed that it happens for you!
As for the books read what you want! Docs just don’t understand how precious reading time is for Moms!
