Change Of Plans Redux

by Mrs. Chicken on August 6, 2008

My mom is on the road, at least nine hours away.

My MIL is in Washington, DC. She is frantically ironing her husband’s shorts, keeping herself busy until she, too, can get in the car and go.

Last night was dreadful; no sleep at all. Just pain and shortness of breath, constant trips to the bathroom and frustration at my inability to get comfortable.

Today we planned to take The Poo to lunch at Bob Evans (she loves those potato smiley faces) and to the mall playground.

The day loomed long, and I wondered to myself if I would have the energy to grill the steak in the fridge. I wanted corn for dinner tonight, but wasn’t sure I had the get up and go to do it.

Then I went to the doctor.

Shaggy looks great on the scan. He is moving and happy and his heart is beating perfectly. So I sat in the examining room and waited for the word to come that I could go home, and do some more waiting.

But that isn’t to be.

Instead, I will be in the operating room today at 3 p.m. CST, barring any unforeseen emergencies that proceed me. By 4 p.m. I will have seen the face of my son.

My son.

My daughter will be a big sister.

We will be a family of four.

I’m asking you, if you are so inclined, to say a little prayer – or whatever passes for that – for me and Henry. He has some flecks in his amniotic fluid, could be vernix.

Could be meconium.

So my little boy has a bit of a challenge ahead of him. And my heart just can’t take any more near misses.

I’ll see you all on the flip side.

xoxoxo

Today I begged for some plan of action and a date for induction. I think if they complied instead of convincing me to wait, I would be so worried to.

Thinking of you… all will be well.
