Did you know that there is no federal law governing the rights of breastfeeding mothers? There are plenty of state laws, but there is no one blanket statute that covers every woman, everywhere in the US, with uniformity.
So what happens when you are in the air?
I don’t breastfeed, so my heart isn’t quite as close to this issue as many of yours are. However, I certainly don’t think airlines should tell a mother how to feed her baby. I know lots of people are uncomfortable at the sight of a little boobie, and that when you’re in the air there’s no place else to go to relieve that discomfort.
But think of how that mom feels.
What’s you take? Go here and weigh in.

Sorry about the very long ramble I posted on travelmuse… O.o I really hate patriarchial prudishness…

I can’t believe the prudishness of people who squirm in discomfort when they see a little breast when a mother is feeding her baby. It’s not Playboy Magazine, people!

I threw my 2 cents in over there. Thank you for continuing the conversation. Being that I’m not exactly ‘lactating’ anymore (my youngest is almost 5), I’m kinda out of the loop. You would think we, as a society, would be past this by now! Geesh! There is still so much work to be done . . .

Oooooo! That got me all fired up. I couldn’t figure out how to comment on the article. Yeah, get over it people. They are just breasts. Breasts! Boobs! Boobies! And just to show I am comfortable with ALL of the whole thing I’m going to say a really rebellious word. Vagina. So there! Heh, so anyway, if a kid needs to eat, he needs to eat. It’s breakfast. These people need to GET OVER IT! So anywho….that’s how I feel about it, I guess. I’ve nursed on a plane many times. Would they rather me give the baby gum to chew on? Really.

In my mind, this is a great example of just how prudish the US still is.
Nobody bats an eyelid in Europe to a mother breastfeeding - if anything, it raises coos, aaahhhs and smiles from those who notice.

apparently angelina jolie is shown breast feeding on the Nov cover of W magazine. I mean… she’s wearing a tanktop and there’s skin and a baby’s hand and OHMY.
