Killing Him With Her Love

by Mrs. Chicken on November 12, 2008

The Poo adores her baby brother, despite some rather pointed comments about his ability to interfere with her activities—like, say, her absolutely urgent need to watch “Imagination Movers” at precisely the moment when I am placing the almost-sleeping boy in his crib.

She never misses an opportunity to lavish him with physical affection, most of it of the “looming-head-in-the-face” variety. My favorite is when she kisses him, and coos in his ear in a dead-on impression of my own mommy-babble.

Shaggy, on the other hand, is wary of the giant-yet-small person who shares his space. When his sister approaches him, his arms and legs wave madly, as if to ward off the monster about to smother him with a full-body “huggy-huggy.”

I love that she loves him, and I can’t wait to tell them both how enamored she was of him as a wee babe—especially when they’re fighting over something totally stupid.

In the meantime, I laugh every time I see this:

Jesus Christ! WHAT IS SHE DOING TO ME?

I love those smooshy kisses.

She’s killing him softly indeed, a little bit of that looming affection goes a long way. She most hover above him quite a bit and he is wondering, “Why are you letting this happen to me?” Big sisters can be such a joy. I had one, I remember. He’ll fight for his space soon enough and run like hell in the other direction.

It’s the opposite here. Whenever The Boss deigns to give the slightest attention to Number Two, he lights up like the freakin’ Xmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza. The poor kid doesn’t have many occasions to shine, though.

Oh my God, Amy I think I just peed my pants!

I love how the Poo has the over the head wrap thing going on with the one finger keeping his face in a place where she can kiss it.

Ah yes, the let me squish your face off approach. So cute, yet still a tiny bit frightening.

I love that face. How awesome that you caught it on camera.

I would be very, very rich if I had a quarter for every time I have said “leave the baby alone!”

This is a perfect post. The title. The story. The picture and the caption that went with it. Thanks for my first laugh of the day.

oh that’s so adorable. My two are *exactly* the same. Exact.

Fight and argue and love each other to 100% each way. If that makes sense..

Roan doted on Ella when she was born… kissed her, hugged her loved her… now all they say is ‘we’re sisters aren’t we mummy?’ and then hug each other senseless!

Sounds like The Poo and Chicky are the same type of big sister. And this is why I’m convinced my 5 month old is already almost crawling. She needs to get away from all that rough love somehow.

Heh. Love that photo.

After reading your caption all I can think of is Pumba in the Lion king as he bursts from the underbrush while being chased by Nala…

“SHE’S GONNA EAT ME!”

Apparently when my other half’s baby brother was brought home, she told her Nan “its okay, we’re taking him back later”

Courtney November 16, 2008 at 4:53 pm

What a great photo! She’s so cute with her smothering him with love.
