A Note to My Son

by Mrs. Chicken on April 1, 2009

Dear baby boy,

Learning how to pull yourself up in your crib is great! Congratulations on becoming a bi-ped.

This does not, however, excuse you from the normal functions of a human being.

Now sit the fuck down and GO TO SLEEP.

Love,

Mama

I hear ya! My 2 1/2 is now in his big boy bed and every damn morning between 3 and 4 he appears before me and is ready to rock and roll. It’s getting old real fast.

I remember when the girls could stand up in the crib but couldn’t let go of the rail. Every few minutes I was prying their little fingers off of the rail and laying them down. I don’t have to tell you the thoughts of how to keep them laying in bed that danced through my tired mind.

You are hilarious. Why is it that they can learn to pull up on their own, but can’t figure out how to sit back down?

It took us a few minutes to figure out where all the little white flakes all over my 10 month olds’ face came from…the paint from the crib rail! Well, at least that is one thing she will eat…

OMG, honey…I have soooooo been here! All of my kids were monkeys crawling up out of their cribs before they could speak!

Time to lower that mattress, me thinks!

I have a reputation for psychic twinges. The moment I read your post, I thought, “This is his job.” Reflecting on it, I know there are other candidates, that I don’t want to be so certain; it’s scary. However, he is from Ohio and has a link with students who have that background; he is smart enough to get into Harvard and did so – that means he has talent AND smarts – and is not just a good hummer. He has a nice family life and is therefore not a music kook – and he interacts with that family in day-to-day music ways (Singing a happy song to his son first thing in the morning; that will certainly be a great memory).

I would say he is blend of fine musical skill and education PLUS the interest in passing on what he knows and has learned to others; he is a teacher, not a self-centered prima donna.

So . . . well . . . it just seems to me, Bowling Green would be missing the boat to not take advantage of what he has to offer.
