I stole this idea from Heather, who is da bomb. I may not be going to BlogHer (again) this summer, but I am going to Cleveland! I never thought I would say this, but YAY Cleveland! Because hopefully I’ll get to meet Heather. So anyway, here is a meme I filched from her.
Sixteen things I can’t live without this summer
1. Sun tea with lots of ice and lemons
2. My camera
3. Frozen custard (I know, I know, not vegan)
4. The ocean breeze on my face
5. Slipping between the crisp, white sheets of my queen-sized bed in my mother’s summer house on Cape Cod
6. The smiling faces of my niece and nephew
7. Watching my son experience sand in his toes (and his mouth and his hair and his bum …) for the first time
8. A cool bath on a hot summer afternoon
9. Hot dogs (shut up)
10. The snake of Herring Run, as viewed from my bedroom window in Wellfleet
11. Drinks with my three oldest friends, beside my BFF’s new pool
12. Lip gloss
13. My Crocs
14. Hydrangea blooms
15. The taste of the ocean on the hollow of my husband’s neck
16. Teaching my children about the rituals of summer
And you? What can’t you live without this summer?

O … when are you to be at the cape? … as if … you know, cause early August we’ll be in Kennebunkport … could be a roadtrip.
I am looking forward to summer camp – 10 weeks that leave me totally exhausted but with a renewed spirit because I have had a part in the positive growth of a child whose parents gave them the gift of going to summer camp.
I love:
1. The challenge of making sure 125 campers per week get on the bus at the beginning of camp and get off the bus at the end of camp.
2. Watching the Junior Unit (6 – 8 year olds) figure out how to get their full plate of food to their table at meal times – without spilling anything.
3. Seeing the Junior Unit move swiftly through the food line and making the trek to their table with new found confidence.
4. The sound of kids playing in the pool.
5. Watching the Fred Meyer skit for about the 100th time.
6. Teaching the CIT unit how to teach the Bear in Tennis Shoes song to younger campers.
7. Taking a group of kids to the magic trail when it is dark. (Hey, it is a good thing!)
8. Helping the camp cooks improvise when our food delivery is LATE!
9. Watching with pride as so many of my returning staff arrive at camp with smiles and the confidence they learned when they were campers.
10. Seeing shy kids blossom and obnoxious kids learn to temper their behavior.
11. Being offered my 32nd smore of the summer by a kid with a dirty face and a big smile.
12. Waiting for the summers joke that the staff always plays on me. Lets see…there was the year I found a canoe in the rafters of the dining hall – and when I woke in the morning to find a rowboat in my cabin – I can’t forget the time they glitter gelled my hair and painted my face and I didn’t wake up (yes, I am a very sound sleeper and without my hearing aids I don’t hear a sound)- or when I was surprised to find my cabin filled with balloons – or the year I went to leave camp at the end of the season with my fingers crossed that the battery in my car that had not moved in 10 weeks would not be dead, only to discover that my car had no wheels.
13. Talking to parents who are amazed to hear that their precious prince or princess did camp chores right along side their cabin mates – without complaining. AND they survived the week without any cell phones, electronic games, audio devices, tv or hair dryers, soda or energy drinks.
Yes, I am looking forward to summer camp!
Oh good post, I may steal it.
Hopefully we’ll make it out to the Cape this summer as well. Living close by, we don’t seem to make it out much though
I’m looking forward to NO SCHEDULES!
Thank god for Cleveland (my lovely neighbor to the west)! My 1-16 would be sun, sun, and more sun. Oh yeah, and cool thunderstorms. The end.

I look forward to a not too hot summer with sunshine and intermittent showers that cool everything off and keep the little world I live in green and pretty, and ice cream sundaes on the terrace of the best ice cream parlor in town.
