Her Brother, Her Friend

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Hi! I’m Clink! I have a little blog at Tabula Rasa. I have Spouse and my baby girl and I pretty much just write whatever strikes me at the time.
I’m not sure if I can express how honored I am to be posting for Mrs. Chicken while she is off having her Shaggy boy. [...]

Overwhelmed

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

I’m supposed to be napping but I can’t turn off my brain.
The Poo, Shaggy and I were hanging in the family room watching Yellow Submarine when The Poo all of a sudden yelled out:
“Mommy, I waited too long!”
She was peeing on the carpet.
I, of course, being such a cool-headed mama, freaked out and yelled at [...]

A Cracked Heart

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

A survivor, a writer, a knitter a cook. Sometimes someone who kind of sews, a beginning painter, a diabetic. A singer. An amazon with a predilection for high heels and vamp nail polish. A wearer of red lipstick. A friend, a fiancee, a sister, a daughter, a soft place to land. Able to belch like [...]

On Raising Boys

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Please welcome one of my blogging idols, the divine Slouching Mom. I asked her to give me some advice on raising boys, since, I, too have my fears about the round part.
***
When Mrs. Chicken asked if I could write something for her about raising boys, I agreed, but with some misgivings. Why the misgivings? I [...]

Aloft

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Citizens of The Internet, Friends, Readers…Mom, Dad, I am here today to warn you of the little-known dangers of loft beds. We all know they can be dangerous for small children, of course. But have you ever seen a warning sticker that says: Please use caution when ascending/descending this ladder if you are 33 and [...]

Joy And Sorrow

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Please welcome my dear, dear friend, Amanda, of Tumble Dry.
***
“Might you consider guest posting for me in August when I have the baby?”
This was the whispered request that came via email one Monday afternoon in July. Its arrival had me thinking about friendship and motherhood, marriage and solitude. I’ve known Mrs. Chicken for a year [...]

Greetings!

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I’m writing this from my hospital bed, about 13 hours after the birth of my Shaggy Boy.
My gigantic Shaggy Boy.
Now I understand why I could barely move, eat, breathe or sleep - nine pounds, 12 ounces, 22 inches. I mean, Christ in a sidecar, people, that isn’t a baby, that’s a Thanksgiving turkey for 20 [...]

Change Of Plans Redux

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

My mom is on the road, at least nine hours away.
My MIL is in Washington, DC. She is frantically ironing her husband’s shorts, keeping herself busy until she, too, can get in the car and go.
Last night was dreadful; no sleep at all. Just pain and shortness of breath, constant trips to the bathroom and [...]

An Offer I Almost Couldn’t Refuse

Monday, August 4th, 2008

So.
I just got back from the OB, who offered to deliver Shaggy Boy today.
Um, yeah.
I contracted a few times in 20 minutes during the non-stress test, and Shaggy was sleepy. My cervix is mushy (groooooossss) and the midwife says she can get her finger in a tiny hole there but can’t reach the baby’s head.
Aaaaaaaaand [...]

Help A Girl Out Will Ya?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

On Tuesday, I looked like this:

Today, I’m positive that I am even bigger.
Simple tasks that I used to take for granted, like getting up off the couch or wiping my own ass, are more and more challenging.
Do they sell cranes for personal use?
Alas, I cannot stop and smell the roses just yet. There are 12 [...]
